Ear Posting / Tips and Tricks

Ear Posting

There are several different methods to post ears, through trial and error you will find the best method for you. The Backerrod method and the Zip tie method is the most commonly used. Posting takes patience but the end result is worth it! Please do a bit of research before bringing your puppy home!

I have used both the backerrod and zip tie method and both work great, it comes down to your preference.

I do sell Ear Posting Kits as well for $50 that includes start up material for posting (not including the dremel.)

Materials Needed

There are certain foolproof products that make the posting process easier; most of these products can be found on Amazon.

  1. Torbot Glue
  2. Backerrods (foam pipe insulation)
  3. Unisolve Adhesive Remover
  4. Cotton Balls or Pads
  5. White Sports Tape (or other medical grade tape)
  6. Scissors
  7. A Dremel
  8. Gold Bond Powder

The Do's and Don'ts

Do's

  1. Make sure the ear is thoroughly cleaned and dry prior to posting. Do not post if ears are Wet, Dirty, or an Ear Infection present.
  2. Have your posting supplies prepared, do not try to post step by step but instead have your materials ready.
  3. It is easier to post a tired puppy than a rambunctious one! Try to post in the evening/night after the puppy is tired. Have someone hold the puppy and someone else to tape the ears. A Grooming Table is a great tool to use as well
  4. Stretch the ears while applying the tape. You do not want the tape tight but instead want to make sure the ear is pulled up straight and not sagging down
  5. Adding Vitamin C, cottage cheese, yogurt are some additives that can potentially help the ears stand.
  6. If in doubt, contact me!

Dont's

  1. Never tape over sores! Never post ears that are not fully dry.
  2. Do not use too much tape. It makes the ears heavy, and it can cause too much restriction.
